I wanted to make sure that the mounts did not start slipping from the vibration of the sound (I like it LOUD with lots of bass) so after adjusting the tilt and swivel to aim the speakers properly, I used a wrench to tighten the hex nut under the hand wheel. If you want to tighten them down even more securely, you can just unscrew the hand wheel altogether, remove it and use a ratchet wrench. This would probably also work for heavier speakers. So far my speakers have not moved at all since I tightened them down.
